Taking It Back

It's easy to let things in life take over and slow you down. I've been busy and I've somehow managed to get side tracked. I would've said that I've lost sight of what's important but that's simply not the truth.

I wanted to post some pictures of a wedding I did a couple of years ago. Lina, has been a client of mine for years. I met her when I worked as the Business Manager at Bobbi Brown in Nordstrom. She loved my style of makeup and after I left Nordstrom she continued to be a devout client. I've done almost all of her major events. I love creating long-lasting friendships. I've been there with her through her engagement, her wedding, and her family members' weddings! She's had a baby and started her career. Becoming friends with my clients is one of the many blessings and benefits of what I do.

For Lina's engagement photos she didn't want heavy makeup. They were shot outside with natural lighting and she wanted to look timeless. She's a gorgeous woman so it's not difficult to make her look stunning. When I am being booked for wedding makeup I always suggest a trial run. A great time to book me for a trial run is on the day of engagement photos or a bridal shower. That way the makeup is photographed and my clients can see how it wears as the day progresses.

Lina was really happy with the way her makeup came out for her engagement photos. She had one request for her big day; she wanted a little heavier eye makeup. I agreed with her after seeing the beautiful shots of her engagement shoot. I just added a little more shading to her eyes and picked up the eyeliner a bit. I also did the makeup for her bridal party and her mother. They were all very happy with the results. Here are a few photos from her special day. I am looking forward to sharing many more special events with Lina and her family.

More Photos from Rail Cars and Sass...

I just got a few more prints from Elizabeth Councill. I had to share them. We had such a great time at this shoot, regardless of the heat and mosquitos :)

I can't wait until the next one...

Defunct Rail Cars and a Bit of Sass

This weekend I did makeup for a photographer who wanted to shoot at a location that was unique and a little "out of the box". Elizabeth Councill asked if I would be interested in doing makeup at the Gold Coast Railroad Museum. I hadn't been to the museum since I was little (I don't even remember it) and I am always game to do makeup so I figured, why not? The rail cars were pretty amazing and dusty and eerie. Walking through some of them gave me chills. Who knows what stories were told on the cars, where people were traveling to or from and I couldn't stop myself from picturing what life was like on those trains (some of which were built in the early 1900's). The weather was cooperative for South Florida; it was hot, humid, and overcast at times. I did makeup on Nicole Fiori, a graphics art major who models for fun in her spare time. The theme was definitely vintage and I think we captured that. We all got along really well and had a great time shooting. Here are a couple of previews from the day. I did a very natural look on Nicole. It was my intention to make her beautiful brown eyes stand out and to not let her melt in the sweltering heat. Ch-ch-check it out.

Sunshine and Summertime

One of my favorite nail polish brands is having a major promotion for the summertime. Zoya Natural Nail Polish is giving away one of their summer collections for free with the purchase of the Color Lock System which retails for $48. Zoya is a unique company because their nail polish is formaldehyde, toluene, dibutyl phthalate, and camphor free. The company boasts that their nail polishes are vegan friendly and long-wearing. I participated in another promotion for the company and I fell in love with the product. The summer collections are fun and festive. The Sunshine collection is warm. Each color is infused with a gold-metallic shimmer. Perfect for the tan that you plan on sporting in the upcoming summer months. The Summertime collection (my favorite) is bold with cool colors. Perfect for my fair skin tone.

I think I am going to paint each of my nails a different color. I saw this on The Style Spy and it inspired me.

Zoya polishes retail for $8. Each collection has six shades which is the value of the Color Lock System. So purchase the C.L.S. and make each fun summer shade last! With the promo code you also receive FREE SHIPPING! OW OW!

Here's the PROMO. It's good until 6/28/11.

Rock on,

Beauty Find

I've been meaning to share this! I always love a great beauty find/deal. I've been really partial to Maybelline's Great Lash  in the color Blackest Black for years. Layering worked and it really accentuated my lashes. I personally don't believe in paying $20 for a product that needs to be replenished every month or two when there are just as good or better products available at a fraction of the cost. I worked retail and I have tried just about everything. If it claimed to make lashes appear longer, fuller, thicker, etc I purchased it. When doing makeup I save the lashes for last because it finishes the look. So finding the perfect mascara is a must. When I saw Rimmel's Extra Super Lash at CVS for sale at around $4 I figured I'd give it a shot. I was really pleased with the results. The more I use it, the more I love it. It washes off easily and separates, thickens, and curls lashes. I plan to grab a few for my makeup kit and my personal stash.

If you try out this product, let me know that you love it as much as I do.

Cheers,
Cindy

Inspiration

Adele is at the very top of her game right now. I knew that she was going to be a huge success when I first heard her sultry voice a couple of years ago. Her lyrics are beautifully written and her music is a bit nostalgic, reminiscent of the 1950's. Her look is often times inspired by the 1950's as well. And she is making her way into becoming a style icon. I came across this picture of her in a magazine and the first thing that caught my attention was her hair color! I want it! I think I might go for it. Her makeup is perfect for the upcoming summer months. A peachy bronze cheek. "Freshly bitten" lip color and a warm bronze shadow. I can't wait to recreate this look!

Bridal Makeup and a BBQ Weekend

I had the opportunity to do bridal makeup this Memorial Day weekend on a friend who was referred to me. Adri, who doesn't wear much makeup on a daily basis wanted a fresh look for her wedding. She wanted to make sure she didn't lose herself in her wedding day makeup. I had done a preview about a month ago for her bridal shower and she loved the look. The requests she had for her big day were, "Less of a defined eyeliner and less bronze on the cheeks, more pink". Easy, peasy. I always tell my brides to get a magazine clipping (or two) of a makeup look that they adore. I'll go over the possibilities of recreating that look for their special day and simply, make it happen. Sometimes I'll get a bride who will say "What ever you think looks great"in regards to style of makeup and this makes me smile! It's always fun to completely surprise someone.

Adri loved her makeup. I also got the opportunity to do the maid of honor, bridesmaid, and mother of the groom. It was smooth sailing for the day. No bumps as far as time and everyone adored their looks. Adri and the ladies were off to the wedding in stunning style and ON TIME. It's always so awesome to be invited into someones special day. I know that bridal makeup is just the "cherry on top" when it comes to the overall bridal look. I am just thrilled that I get to be a part of such a monumental occasion! Here are a couple before and after photos I took. I will post the professional photos once I can get my hands on them.

The rest of the weekend was filled with sunshine, BBQ, and good times with family and friends. I hope you enjoyed your weekend as much as I did mine.

While I am getting everything together for this new venture, here is a preview of what's to come. I was offered one of the best jobs in my life when my sister Kari-Ann asked me if I would do her makeup for her wedding in Arizona. I obliged and frankly, I would have been livid if she had asked anyone else to touch her beautiful face for her big day. I did the entire bridal party and lucky me, all of the women are gorgeous. No biases here!

Session Nine Photography took the photos. They are masters at their art and it shows. Enjoy!

New Beginnings

Getting the courage to do what I've always said I would do. It finally hit me. I am listening to the "whispers from within". How will people know about who I am and what I do if I don't put it out there? So here it is Universe, all of me and my passions. Ready to reach out and touch someone :)
